Retirement is a goal that nearly everybody works towards in life, finding time to sit back and relax after a lifetime of hard work. For many people, retiring in an area or a community that aligns with their interests is one of the main dreams they have in life.

For example, nature lovers may retire in an area such as the Pacific Northwest, while lovers of the beach may retire in areas such as Los Angeles or Miami. That begs the question, where should music lovers look to retire to, and what will music lovers find so great about these locations?

Here are the best cities for music lovers to retire in.

Memphis

Music-loving retirees should definitely consider looking at Memphis houses for sale, as the city has plenty of places for music-lovers to enjoy. The biggest music attraction in Memphis is Graceland, the former home of famous musician Elvis Presley. Today Graceland is one of the country’s biggest and most visited music attractions, honoring everything about the life and career of Elvis.

The alleged birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Sun Studio, is also located in Memphis, allowing you to see another important location in music history. Add that on top of a slew of other museums and live venues, and it’s no wonder why Memphis is one of the top retirement destinations for music lovers.

Nashville

Nashville is the biggest city for country music, and country music lovers should definitely consider retiring in the area. In fact, the city is even nicknamed the Music City due to its close relationship with the industry.

The Grand Ole Opry is one of Nashville’s biggest music destinations,  one of the most prestigious venues in country music. Additionally, the city is home to the Country Music Hall of Fame, a museum that is dedicated to the history of country music. If you’re a music lover looking for a place with lots of music history and plenty of live venues, Nashville is the place to be.

New Orleans

New Orleans and jazz music have always had a close relationship, with many considering the city the jazz capital of the world. While in New Orleans, you can experience a variety of authentic jazz clubs, something you really can’t experience in most other parts of the country.

Even if jazz isn’t your favorite type of music, you’ll still be able to see plenty of live performances from other genres such as blues, R&B, and rock. Finally, New Orleans has many different musical street performers and a variety of musical parades, so there’s always music in the air in the Big Easy.

Austin

Austin is a city that is very attractive for young professionals looking to jumpstart their careers, but it also is a fantastic location for music-loving retirees. Due to the large influx of young people, Austin has been growing as a big location in the alternative and indie music scenes. Additionally, you’ll also find a lot of other genres as well, such as country.

However, the biggest thing about Austin for music lovers is the overwhelming amount of live venues there are. While there may not be cathedrals to music like the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, the sheer amount of coffee shops and bars means you can hear live music just about anywhere you go.
